The department is very happy to congratulate Prof. Emerita Sue Kieffer, who has received the 2017 “Marcus Milling Legendary Geoscientist Award” of the American Geosciences Institute (AGI).
"The Marcus Milling Legendary Geoscientist Medal is given to a recipient with consistent contributions of high-quality scientific achievements and service to the Earth sciences having lasting, historic value; who has been recognized for accomplishments in field(s) of expertise by professional societies, universities, or other organizations; and is a senior scientist nearing completion or has completed full-time regular employment. “
Prof. Kieffer's amazing accomplishments in many aspects of geoscience (geological fluid dynamics, volcanology, mineral thermodynamics, and planetary geology) and service (most recently in contributions to national-level considerations of geoethics), and the fact that she has been recognized her receipt of the Penrose Medal, Day Medal, National Academy of Sciences membership, a McArthur Fellowship, and several other awards, more than qualify her for the AGI award. Sue is indeed legendary!!!
