Mingfei Chen Wins Outstanding Student Presentation Award at AGU

Geology PhD student Mingfei Chen, part of Dr. Jessica Conroy's lab group, won an Outstading Student Presentation Award at the AGU Fall Meeting. Mingfei gave a presentation on his PhD work entitled 'Interpreting lacustrine bulk sediment d15N values using metagenomics: a case study in a hypersaline lake system.' This work uses metagenomics as a novel tool to provide information on specific microbial processes that can significantly alter the nitrogen isotope signatures recorded in the lake sediment.
